Who is Fritz Heckert
Fritz Heckert – Warmbrunn, Silesia – c. 1866 – 1923
Fritz Heckert initially started his company, the Petersdorf glass works in 1866, as a refinery of mirrors and chandelier parts, and produced German, Indian and Persian inspired enamelled glass. Heckert applied his trade as a Bohemian Glass enameller from 1866-1890, the time of his recorded death.
Initially Heckert enameled replicas of 17th & 18th century historical glass, but in 1889 he started his own glass furnace, and produced Iridescent Glass which was decorated with Art Nouveau decors.
From 1890 to 1910, Heckert’s son-in-law grew the company. It was in 1910 that Heckert’s grandson took
over the reigns of the company. But it was in after 1898, that they produced their Jugendstil inspired decorations and shapes. They also produced silver overlay glass.
In 1923 Heckert merged with Josephinenhütte, where it survives today under the name Graf Schaffgotsch’sche Josephinenhutte, (A side note: the company obtained glass blanks for enameling from nearby Josephinenhütte when it started.)
